Behind the scenes in PUMA maintenance
ENSURING PEAK PERFORMANCE: A LOOK INTO OUR TRACTOR MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
Your local CASE IH Dealer prides themselves on ensuring that our tractors deliver optimal performance throughout their lifespan. Our skilled technicians are at the heart of this promise, meticulously following a fixed maintenance schedule for the first several years of each machine’s life. To provide insight into this process, we spoke with a Case IH Technician, a seasoned fitter, about what goes into a 1500-hours inspection for a Puma tractor.
Your Dealer technician will begin every service by connecting a diagnostic tool* to the tractor to check for fault codes. This proactive step ensures they can order any necessary parts in advance, preventing delays. During the 1500-hours service, while standard filter changes are routine, additional replacements may also be required. By integrating diagnostics early in the process, your Dealer stays ahead of potential issues.
Next, they will meticulously check all fixed lubrication points on the tractor. Proper lubrication is crucial to prevent rusting and the subsequent replacement of corroded or worn parts. Ensuring these points are adequately greased is a key step in maintaining the tractor’s longevity.
The engine and rear axle oil are drained and inspected for metal shavings. While it's uncommon to find metal shavings at the 1500-hours mark, their presence could indicate deeper mechanical issues. Typically, these issues might only arise around 5,000 to 6,000 running hours.
After draining the oil, your technician will open the bonnet to inspect hoses and wires, ensuring they are neatly arranged and leak-free. They also check belt tension and replace all mandatory engine filters. The cabin air filter is inspected for tightness and cleanliness; if it’s clogged, it significantly affects air conditioning performance and air quality. Most often, the cabin air filter is replaced to protect the driver from pollen, insects, and dust, ensuring a comfortable environment in the cab.
Special Considerations for Spray Tractors: For spray tractors, your technician will also check the carbon filters that gets a higher protection vs the pollen filters. These filters typically need replacement every two years to maintain their effectiveness.
Final Functional Test: The service concludes with a comprehensive functional test. Your technician will tighten all components and check the lights and headlights. Using their experience, they listen and feel for any signs that the machine isn’t running optimally. Once satisfied, they confidently hand the tractor back to you, ensuring it will perform at its best until the next scheduled inspection at 2,400 hours.
By adhering to this meticulous maintenance schedule, we ensure that our tractors remain reliable, efficient, and ready to meet your demands.
