Among all of the checkpoints carefully checked by your Dealer are the load circuit of the machine: As any tractor owner knows, ensuring that the starter, alternator and battery are functioning properly is crucial. These components are essential for the smooth operation of your tractor and their failure can lead to significant downtime and costly repairs.

Here’s why:

1

Starter

The starter is responsible for cranking the engine to start your tractor. If it’s not working properly, your tractor won’t start, leaving you stranded and unable to complete your work.

2

Alternator

The alternator is responsible for charging the battery and powering the electrical systems while the engine is running. If the alternator is faulty, it can lead to a dead battery, causing the tractor to stall or fail to start.

3

Battery

The battery provides the initial power to start the engine and supports electrical components when the engine is off. If the battery is weak or dead, it will prevent your tractor from starting and affect the performance of electrical systems.

How to know and test?

Your Dealer is the best person to identify the cause of the malfunction on your machine. However, if you have any doubts, you can follow the below tips:

If you hear a clicking sound when you turn the key, the engine doesn't turn over, or it takes a long time to crank, you've probably identified a starter malfunction. Check the starter connections for corrosion or loose wires. If you have a multimeter, measure the voltage at the starter when you try to start the tractor. Low voltage is a clear indication of a starter problem.

If the lights are dim, the battery warning light is on the dashboard, and the battery is dead, you have a bad alternator. If you're sure your battery is fine, test the voltage at the battery terminal with the engine running. It should be between 13.8 and 14.4 volts. If it's not, you probably have a bad alternator. You should also check the alternator belt for wear and tension. A loose or worn belt will cause the alternator to fail.

If the engine is difficult to start, the lights are dim, or the battery warning light is on, the battery is likely malfunctioning. Test the voltage with a multimeter or have your dealer perform a full battery test.

Regularly checking these components and using Genuine Parts is the best way to keep your tractor running smoothly and avoid unnecessary downtime. It saves you money in the long run and ensures that your tractor is always ready to perform when you need it.
